Tournament Rules and Other Information
  • Sections: 14 & Under, 11 & Under, 8 & Under
  • All players play all 4 rounds, and playing up is welcome.

  • Section eligibility based on age as of December 31, 2016.
  • So, for example, if a player's 12th birthday is in November and he plays in a Spiegel Cup Series event in October, he is NOT eligible to play in the 11 & Under section and must play in the 14 & Under section.
  • Conversely, if the player's 12th birthday is in January then he IS eligible to play in the 11 & Under section of a Spiegel Cup Series event held in February even though he'll be 12 years old at the time of the tournament. What matters is his age on Decemb

  • Remember that each player is responsible for bringing and setting up their clock. Please refer to the Metrowest Chess Club Digital Clock Guide for instructions on how to set digital clocks.
  • MACA does not recommend but allows US Chess approved electronic scorekeeping devices. Please note that some national tournaments held by US Chess ban electronic scorekeeping, so be sure to know how to keep score without aid of electronics.
