December 24, 2003 - Rufus M. Franklin, 75
Rufus Matteson Franklin, age 75 of Centerwood Drive, Holden died Monday, Dec. 22 at
Brigham Womens Hospital in Boston from complications from heart bypass surgery on Nov. 4. He leaves
behind his beloved family; wife Marilyn and daughters Holly of Holden and Lucy Ann of St.Paul,
Minnesota. He lived in Holden 42 years. He was born in Providence, RI, Feb. 22, 1928. His parents Stanley
and Louis Franklin and sister Jane predeceased him.

December 09, 2003 - BOYLSTON CHESS CLUB moving to Davis Square
As of December 15th 2003, the BCC will be located in Davis Square at the Davis Station on the Red Line.
All scheduled events will be carried over with no change in the schedule.
The building at 240 Elm Street does not have a front desk or kiosk. It will be
open when you come to the club. However, please be advised that as of now the
Boylston Club is only open for its events. If you drop by in the middle of the
day you will not be able to get in unless there is some event going on.

November 11, 2003 - Chess on ESPN2: Kasparov vs. X3D Fritz
On Tuesday, a momentous event in chess history will occur. The worldwide sports network, ESPN,
will begin a series of four live broadcasts of the latest Man vs Machine match featuring world
number 1, Garry Kasparov, against a program called X3DFritz. Not since Fischer-Spassky in 1972 has
there been this much live coverage of a chess match on US television. The first show will air this
Tuesday at 1 p.m. EST with the following shows set for November 13, 16 and 18. If this event gets
the ratings, ESPN will look into broadcasting future chess competitions. You can find out further

May 26, 2003 - Ivanov and Paschall win 72nd Massachusetts Open
GM Alexander Ivanov and IM William Paschall are the 2003 Massachusetts co-champions as a result of their equal finish in the 72nd Massachusetts Open, which was held on Memorial Day weekend in Marlborough.
