Massachusetts Chess Association Annual Membership Meeting

MACA Treasurer Robert Messenger called the meeting to order at 9:11 am.
Attending: Mr. Messenger, Clerk Jeffrey Caruso, Director Nicholas Sterling, Directors-elect Dmitry Barash and Elsie Smits, and MACA members Natasha Christiansen, Robert E. King, and Leo Marzoratti.
As a quorum was not present, the meeting was mainly informational.
Election Results. Mr. Caruso presented the elections report. (appended) The following candidates were elected:
President: Andrew Hoy
Vice President: Steven Winer
Treasurer: Robert Messenger
Clerk: Jeffrey Caruso
Directors: Paul Arond, Dmitri Barash, Oleg Poliannikov, Alonzo Ross, Elsie Smits, Nicholas Sterling, Prof. Latanya Sweeney, and Yi Wang.
The Bylaws amendment of January 12, regulating e-meetings, was also approved.
In a discussion that followed, members made several proposals for the Executive Board to consider, in particular (1.) greater highlighting for the voter registration requirement, (2.) making voter registration simpler or even automatic, and (3.) generally giving greater prominence to the election, candidates, and candidate statements on the masschess.orgwebsite.
Committee and Officer Reports. Mr. Messenger presented the Treasurer’s Report and the Membership Report. (appended)

Report of the Elections Commission
May 30, 2022
General
A total of 109 voters were registered for online voting and 8 for paper ballots. There were two candidates for President and eleven candidates for the eight Director positions; all other positions were uncontested.
Ballots
Paper ballots were mailed to voters on April 28 together with printed candidate statements and a self-addressed, stamped ballot return envelope, to be returned by mail by May 27 or in person at the Massachusetts Open by noon on May 28.
Online ballot invitations were emailed to voters on May 1, including a link to the online ballot form and a link to candidate statements posted on the masschess.org website. Online voting was enabled between May 1 and May 27 inclusive.
Ballots also included a question approving the Bylaws Amendment of January 12.
Online ballots were tallied by electionrunner.com and published online on May 28 at https://vote.electionrunner.com/election/9xi6P/results Paper ballots were counted at the Tournament Director’s table at the Massachusetts Open on May 28 at noon and the combined totals were posted in the tournament hall and online at masschess.org.
Election expenses
Election expenses this cycle totaled $63.16, including a $36.00 fee to electionrunner.com for the online portion of the election.
